2008 ECCAR Youth Forum

The second ECCAR Youth Forum took place as one of the working groups of the 2008 General Conference „DiverCity: European Cities for an Inclusive Society“ in Bologna from 18 – 20 September.

About 20 young people from 9 European cities – Barcelona (Spain), Bologna (Italy), Botkyrka (Sweden), Erlangen (Germany), Graz (Austria), Malmö (Sween), Nuremberg (Germany), Serres (Greece) and Uppsala (Sweden) – were selected to participate in the Forum.

A typical mark of ECCAR’s Youth Forum is that young people implement the Forum by themselves. This year, co-ordinated by the Human Rights Office of the City of Nuremberg, students from Serres, Erlangen and Nuremberg organised and implemented the Forum.

Together, they shared ideas raised during the local discussions and presented a set of practical recommendations to municipal authorities. These respond particulary to the manifestation of racist phenomena in the professional practice of sports on the one hand, to physical education and the amateur practice of sports on the other.

Two young delegates presented the recommendations at the closing plenary session of the ECCAR General Conference on Saturday, 20 September 2008.

The recommendations are available as download: 2008 Youth Forum’s recommendations

The European Coalition of Cities Against Racism kindly invites all young people in the ECCAR member cities to participate in the 2009 Youth Forum.
