The First Working Meeting

The first working meeting of ICCAR was held in Nuremberg / Germany on 5 – 6 October 2009, organized by the City of Nuremberg in cooperation with UNESCO / Paris.

The meeting was intended to deal with main challenges which the regional coalitions are facing today and to discuss the further development of the International Coalition of Cities Against Racism, aiming at intensifying the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and discrimination at an international level.

Representatives from the regional coalitions of Africa (City of Durban, South Africa), Asia and Pacific (Asia-Pacific Section of United Cities and Local Governments), Canada (City of Toronto and Canadian National Commission to UNESCO, Ottawa), Europe (City of Nuremberg, Germany), Latin America and the Caribbean (City of Montevideo, Uruguay) and UNESCO (Paris) took part.

The organizers were particularly grateful for the participation of Mrs. Fatou Bensouda, Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague and her presentation on the International Criminal Court and particularly of the Office of the Prosecutor.

The next meeting will be hosted by the City of Durban (South Africa) in 2010.
